Trade Commission extends antidumping order on foreign shrimp

Last week the US International Trade Commission (USITC) voted unanimously to support the domestic shrimp industry's request to extend antidumping orders on frozen warmwater shrimp from China, India, Thailand and Vietnam for an additional five years.

The USITC first enacted these orders more than 10 years ago to offset cheating by foreigh producers.

North Carolina Congressman Walter Jones, Jr. applauded the USITC's action saying, "Shrimping is an integral part of Eastern North Carolina's heritage and economy. Hard-working Eastern North Carolina fishing families have been devastated by unfairly traded foreign shrimp. If these orders weren't continued, producers from China, Vietnam and elsewhere would start illegally dumping shrimp into our market again. I thank the ITC for standing up for American workers."
