The African American

Experience in North Carolina Seafood

an oral history based project by NC Catch to grow awareness of the vital role people of color play in our state’s seafood industry.

Thanks to a NC Sea Grant Community Collaborative grant, NC Catch has partnered with our African American Chef Ambassadors and Board members, the Core Sound Museum and Heritage Center, and Black-owned Mastermind Photography for the project: “Recognizing African American Participation in the North Carolina Seafood Industry.”

We have collected narratives and photographs for a traveling exhibit and event featuring a panel discussion with African American seafood purveyors and a seafood tasting by our partner chefs. Watch for an upcoming event near you!
