North Carolina's official fish is the red drum and the Outer Banks' bluefin has become famous on evening TV. Marlins draw people from all over to fish in tournaments and some recreational fish for speckled trout and king mackerel. Before all these came the first fish for North Carolina - the lowly mullet.
